It's Relaxtion Time My Lovelies!!!-DIY SUNDAYS

It's all about relaxation

Beyond a take-charge approach and a positive attitude, you can reduce stress in your life by nurturing yourself. If you regularly make time for fun and relaxation, you’ll be in a better place to handle life’s stressors when they inevitably come.
Don’t get so caught up in the hustle and bustle of life that you forget to take care of your own needs. Nurturing yourself is a necessity, not a luxury.
  • Set aside relaxation time. Include rest and relaxation in your daily schedule. Don’t allow other obligations to encroach. This is your time to take a break from all responsibilities and recharge your batteries.
  • Connect with others. Spend time with positive people who enhance your life. A strong support system will buffer you from the negative effects of stress.
  • Do something you enjoy every day. Make time for leisure activities that bring you joy, whether it be stargazing, playing the piano, or working on your bike.
  • Keep your sense of humor. This includes the ability to laugh at yourself. The act of laughing helps your body fight stress in a number of ways.

Healthy ways to relax and recharge

  • Go for a walk.
  • Spend time in nature.
  • Call a good friend.
  • Sweat out tension with a good workout.
  • Write in your journal.
  • Take a long bath.
  • Light scented candles
  • Savor a warm cup of coffee or tea.
  • Play with a pet.
  • Work in your garden.
  • Get a massage.
  • Curl up with a good book.
  • Listen to music.
  • Watch a comedy

Positive Monday- How Strong are You?

Five  years ago on May 23rd i got the news that someone very special to me was killed in the line of duty. I crashed!!! Then I learnt that this person, whom I trusted, totally abused my trust and deceived me. I felt like my world had crashed. I felt a hurt and pain that was indescribable.

Why am i relating this experience. I want you to know that we are all stronger than we think. You might think you are at the end of your rope, your world has been destroyed. But, remember your not build to break.

Clouds come floating into my life, no longer to carry rain or usher storm, but to add color to my sunset sky.

DIY Sunday - Change the Situation (Managing Stress)

So, yesterday i was having one of those days. I was just down right feeling crappy. Thanks you everyone for your kind comments. To say i have been feeling stress is an understatement. I guess paying mortgage and renovating a new house can do that to you. This is the second post based on an article about dealing with stress.

Stress Management Strategy: Change the situation

If you can’t avoid a stressful situation, try to alter it. Figure out what you can do to change things so the problem doesn’t present itself in the future. Often, this involves changing the way you communicate and operate in your daily life.

Express your feelings instead of bottling them up. If something or someone is bothering you, communicate your concerns in an open and respectful way. If you don’t voice your feelings, resentment will build and the situation will likely remain the same.

Be willing to compromise. When you ask someone to change their behavior, be willing to do the same. If you both are willing to bend at least a little, you’ll have a good chance of finding a happy middle ground.

Be more assertive. Don’t take a backseat in your own life. Deal with problems head on, doing your best to anticipate and prevent them. If you’ve got an exam to study for and your chatty roommate just got home, say up front that you only have five minutes to talk.

Manage your time better. Poor time management can cause a lot of stress. When you’re stretched too thin and running behind, it’s hard to stay calm and focused. But if you plan ahead and make sure you don’t overextend yourself, you can alter the amount of stress you’re under.

Positive Wednesdays- Live Your Best Life!!!

We have been having what i call beach days(Bight, beauiful sunshine). However, i have been so busy trying to meet deadlines, i have not had the chance to enjoy these days. This article reminded me of this very important point, cease the day and live It!!!!!  I hope it impacts you positively!!!

    Live Your Best Life!!!!!!!!!

There is no lesson for today. You have permission to stop thinking for a moment and just enjoy yourself. Stop looking at your computer right now and go look at the world. Rediscover the natural wonders that you walk past every day. How can there possibly be that many shades of green? Let your mind be grateful for a break. Don't think, don't strain. Let the memories of loved ones remind you of your favorite times. Close your eyes and try to smell the sunshine. Listen to your heart beat in your ears. If it's raining, smile at the thought of the flowers that will soon follow. If you're surrounded by buildings, celebrate the creative genius of human beings. See the hope, the alarm, the love, the grief in faces that stream by. Thank whomever you'd like to thank for the chance to even be here. For a moment today, don't worry about being better. Just be.

We're always getting ready to live, but never living.

Out and About Mondays- Do you really want to know?

Out and About Mondays was designed to share various slices of Jamaica. This week i had the idea to share a slice of Jamaica that is intrinsically Jamaican (the Jamaican music). Our music is often a point of controversy nationally and internationally. Sit back and watch. Then leave a comment sharing your thoughts.

    DIY Sundays- Avoiding Stress

I woke up this morning feeling like i have been whipped. This, i guess, is as a result of a stressful week.  I am sure you often have stressful situations yourself. How do we deal with stress? Here are some tips you can use to avoid unnecessary stress.

Stress management strategy #1: Avoid unnecessary stress

Not all stress can be avoided, and it’s not healthy to avoid a situation that needs to be addressed. You may be surprised, however, by the number of stressors in your life that you can eliminate.

Learn how to say “no”Know your limits and stick to them. Whether in your personal or professional life, refuse to accept added responsibilities when you’re close to reaching them. Taking on more than you can handle is a surefire recipe for stress.
Avoid people who stress you out – If someone consistently causes stress in your life and you can’t turn the relationship around, limit the amount of time you spend with that person or end the relationship entirely.
Take control of your environment – If the evening news makes you anxious, turn the TV off. If traffic’s got you tense, take a longer but less-traveled route. If going to the market is an unpleasant chore, do your grocery shopping online.
Avoid hot-button topics – If you get upset over religion or politics, cross them off your conversation list. If you repeatedly argue about the same subject with the same people, stop bringing it up or excuse yourself when it’s the topic of discussion. (I make it a point to never argue about religion or politics.)
Pare down your to-do list – Analyze your schedule, responsibilities, and daily tasks. If you’ve got too much on your plate, distinguish between the “shoulds” and the “musts.” Drop tasks that aren’t truly necessary to the bottom of the list or eliminate them entirely.

    Happy Mother's Day

    Happy Mother's Day – Anonymous

Celebrating the meaning of Mother's day.
    "Happy Mother's Day" means more
    Than have a happy day.
Within those words lie lots of things
    We never get to say.
It means I love you first of all,
Then thanks for all you do.
It means you mean a lot to me,
    And that I honor you.
But most of all, I guess it means
    That I am thinking of
Your happiness on this, your day,
    With pleasure and with love

PS: Thank you all for stopping by the Positive blog hop. To my new followers i will be stopping by very soon.

Positive Wednesday + Blog Hop 2nd Edition!!!!!!

The most prominent question of the last 10 years has been, where were you on September 11? The events of September 11 has impacted the entire world. I remember vividly as a teenage standing in a Canadian store  seeing the second plane flying into the tower. I thought that it was a movie. So, i asked the cashier the name of the movie. He looked at me solemnly. It was then someone in the store responded that it was not a movie. It was real. Immediately, i was sick in my stomach.

The world changed that day. Whether we like to admit it or not, we started to fear anything unfamiliar. We started to search people's faces for any sign of deceit. We started to wonder could he, she, they or them be carrying a bomb. The innocence of the 90's were over. The world was now a place to be feared. The world became hard, callous and uncaring. This is the legacy of 9-11. As i type tears are filling my eyes. Yet, unlike so many of you, i was not affected by the lost of a love one.

I cannot begin to imagine how those who we directly affected felt throughout those long years. My heart goes out to you.

Now, the question will be: where were you on May 1, 2011?

My Positive Thought for you Today is:

Remember that all through history the way of truth and love has always won. There have been tyrants and murderers and for a time they seem invincible but in the end, they always fall -- think of it, ALWAYS.”

    Mahatma Gandhi quotes

    DIY Sundays-Home Edition

I was under the weather today; as a result of this, i have not responded to my new followers from the blog hop. I want you to know i will be stopping by.

Five (5) Ways to use Rubbing Alcohol

1 Remove hair spray from mirrors
When you are spritzing your head with hair spray, some of it inevitably winds up on the mirror. A quick wipe with rubbing alcohol will whisk away that sticky residue and leave your mirror sparkling clean.

    2 Clean your phone
Is your phone getting a bit grubby? Wipe it down with rubbing alcohol. It’ll remove the grime and disinfect the phone at the same time.

    3 Remove ink stains
Did you get ink on your favorite shirt or dress? Try soaking the spot in rubbing alcohol for a few minutes before putting the garment in the wash.
4 Prevent ring around the collar
To prevent your neck from staining your shirt collar, wipe your neck with rubbing alcohol each morning before you dress. Feels good too.

5 Make a shapeable ice pack
The problem with ice packs is they won’t conform to the shape of the injured body part. Make a slushy, conformable pack by mixing 1 part rubbing alcohol with 3 parts water in a self-closing plastic bag. The next time that sore knee acts up, wrap the bag of slush in a cloth and apply it to the area.
