Information That Matters: Deals

Positive Wednesdays- Do You Care What People Think?

Today's Positive Wednesdays will be brief. I am going to share one thought with you.

"Be more concerned with your character than your reputation, because your character is what you really are, while your reputation is merely what others think you are."

The Power of FEAR- Positive Wednesdays

Fear: False Evidence Appearing Real.

Unknown

I recently had the opportunity to embark on an exciting venture that will aid in my personal growth. This is something that I have dreamt of. Something that i want but have never fully believe that i can accomplish because of FEAR.

FEAR puts us in a box and basically allow us to sabbotage ourselves. Often times we do this by calculating all the worst senerios that can possibly happen. This is what i have been doing. Somehow, i have moved from a space of being fearless, estatic, hopeful to replaying all the possible what ifs. That is the power of fear. It has the ability to paralyse us into submission.

What are your fears? How will you over come them today?

Quote of the Day:

You gain strength, courage, and confidence by every experience in which you really stop to look fear in the face. You must do the thing which you think you cannot do.

Eleanor Roosevelt

Water is Life!!!!!

Have you stopped to think what you would do if you turned on your pipe and there was no water in it  forever. Well for many people in Africa, South Asia, and Central America they don't have to think about it. this is their reality.

We often forget that water is life and without it we cannot survive. This is why water.org  is so important. Water.org is a nonprofit organization that has transformed hundreds of communities in Africa, South Asia, and Central America by providing access to safe water and sanitation.

If you want to make a difference stop by water.org and buy a bottle of water for the needy.

Managing Stress - DIY Sundays

We need some amount of stress in our daily lives to motivate us. However, being too stress can be detrimental to our health.  Some of the physical symptoms of stress includes: headaches, upset stomach, elevated blood pressure, chest pain and problems sleeping.

If you can’t change the stressor, change yourself. You can adapt to stressful situations and regain your sense of control by changing your expectations and attitude.

Here are some stress management strategies:

  • Reframe problems.
Try to view stressful situations from a more positive perspective. Rather than fuming about a traffic jam, look at it as an opportunity to pause and regroup, listen to your favorite radio station, or enjoy some alone time.

  • Look at the big picture.
Take perspective of the stressful situation. Ask yourself how important it will be in the long run. Will it matter in a month? A year? Is it really worth getting upset over? If the answer is no, focus your time and energy elsewhere.

  • Adjust your standards.
Perfectionism is a major source of avoidable stress. Stop setting yourself up for failure by demanding perfection. Set reasonable standards for yourself and others, and learn to be okay with “good enough.”

  • Focus on the positive.
When stress is getting you down, take a moment to reflect on all the things you appreciate in your life, including your own positive qualities and gifts. This simple strategy can help you keep things in perspective.

Comment Please!!!!!!

1com·ment

 noun \ˈkä-ˌment\

2
: a note explaining, illustrating, or criticizing the meaning of a writing
3
a : an observation or remark expressing an opinion or attitude <critical comments>b : a judgment expressed indirectly

We all love comments and we all want as many comments per post as possible. Why? Simply put,  for some of us comments give us feedback, it offers us a way to interact with our readers, it is also a sign of approval. Approval? Yes, often we think that persons like the post by the number of comments that post is able to generate. Often this is not a bad thing because we are able to see what our readers like. This in turn informs our blogging.

However, we tend to grade our blogs by the number of comments that we are able to generate. Often we think that our blogs are not worthwhile because we are not bun-barded with comments. This idea I disagree with. Have you ever read a great post, one that you totally love, one that makes you crack up and then you just don't comment. This can be for many reasons: you have nothing to add, you are too busy to comment, the commenting process is too tedious and the list comes on.

So my suggestions are:

  • Add reaction buttons to the end of your posts. Therefore, people can click on a reaction if they cannot comment.

  • Make the process easier. Take off the code off your comment box (this goes for me too). If you choose to do this you can click on the approval button. Therefore all comments will be approved by you before publishing. This way you can spam anything that is offensive.

  • You can covert to the new Blogger dashboard if you have not. In this new format you are able to see how many views each posts receives. What i am saying is that often your stats will be an indicator of whether your readers like your posts, not comments.

  • Ensure that your comment is set to anyone. Therefore, anyone can comment on your blog, not just member of your blog.

Finally a note on comment etiquette. If you go to a blog and you don't agree with the bloggers view. Do not blast the blogger; like my mom always say if you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all.  Remember words take on a life of there own. Be positive in your commenting.

Remembering Haiti........

Today marks one year to the date of the earthquake in Haiti.  Let us take the time to remember that thousand lost their lives. Let us also remember that in great darkness there was light. The earthquake in Haiti also showed that in times of crisis humanity always finds a way to shine. There were thousand of people who rose to the occasion and donated to the cause.   They showed that the human spirit will always rise.

One of Jamaica's contributions.

Positive Wednesday- Starting Over!!!!

A New Year brings with it renewed hope. It Also brings a sense of new beginnings. This offers us the possibility of starting over, moving on from the past, and correcting mistakes that have been made.

What do I hope to achieve this year? What will I do to make this a  successful year? How will I improve personal and professional life? These are the questions we often ask ourselves. Most times the answers to these questions are not easy. By asking these questions of ourselves we realize that there are a number of changes we will have to make in our lives. In essence, we will have to start over.

Just remember that starting over does not mean smooth sailing. So if and when you start to take those first steps on your new path, just be aware that although failure is a possibility; it should not over shadow your journey. In addition,  if you do fall or lose your way, it is okay. Just remember to get up brush yourself off and learn from your mistakes.

'Starting over isn't easy, but the character it builds, helps build you.'

Watching The Dollars and Cents - D.I.Y Sundays

The New Year has come and Christmas has gone.  All the parties are over; the decorations are coming down.  What to do now? For some of us,  we find that the New Year is seeing us with a lot less money than last year. It is a matter of fact that the world's economy is  causing all the watch the pennies.  We often hear about budgeting but budgeting can take you only so far. I applaud those persons who can consistently stick to their budget. But for most of us, budgeting is a never ending battle between common sense and human desires. For others, there is just not enough money to budget with.  Therefore, I wanted to focus on some lifestyle choices we can make to help us save money.

Swap Babysitting with Neighbours and Friends

I love this idea. Instead of paying someone to babysit. You can swap babysitting with neighbours and friends. This way you are sure your child is secure while your out. You can take turns to baby sit.

Review Your Selection of Clothes

It is a common trend to hear persons say they have anything to wear. For some, this might be true ;but for others it is far from it. I suggest you go through your closet and review your clothing collection. After doing so, you will have an idea of the pieces of clothing you own. Also, you are able to mix and match pieces that can be used to create new outfits.

Start a Backyard Garden

Not everyone has a green thumb. However, if you do; this is a great way to exercise and save money. You can grew your own herbs, tomatoes, lettuce and the list goes on. You can even get the kids to help.

Prepare Meals at Home

This is said so often that we should all know this at by heart. However, there are persons like me; who (for one reason or another) find it difficult to scheduled the time to prepare meals at home.

Solutions:
pre-season meats on the weekend
find easy meal ideas
cook in bulk, package and refrigerate for use at a later date.

Consolidate your student loans

This was very helpful for me. I was able to cut my student loan payments buy consolidating my student loans. This can be applied to other loans as well. There is no use burning your head in the sand go in and meet with your lending agency.

Use the Library

When was the last time you went to the library? Using the library is a cheaper alternative to buying books and magazines. It might seem like a drop in the bucket but every penny adds up.

Do It Yourself

There are so many things that we pay to get done that we can do ourselves. It is just crazy when you think about it. There are also so many things that we can make for example: beauty treatments, jams, cleaners, etc.

Putting Purpose to Our Voices

As bloggers,  we often get so caught up in gaining following, increasing stats, writing great posts and the list goes on. We often forget that we should add purpose to our voices. When I say this I mean, that blogging should not only be about being the best or the brightest. It should be about adding something of substance and worth to the digital world. One of the awesome things about being a bloggers is that we are able to gain people's attention, highlight various situations and put ideas and things into respective.

I have discovered that Jennifer James from the Mom Bloggers Club is launching a project called Mom Bloggers for Social Good. It is a global volunteer coalition of mothers who care about important issues like maternal health, women and children, and labour rights and want to use their blogging and social media platforms to spread the word about the good work organizations are doing around the world.

If you would love to become a founding member of Mom Bloggers for Social Good! Just click on the link- founding member

P.S. - I am not being compensated , neither will I gain any publicity or reward  for this post.

Happy Anniversary Me!!!!

I cannot believe it has been one year since I started blogging. I say this with a smile on my face.  I must say I have come a long way. With that i can also say, I have a long way to go.

Why Lioness Rebirth?

Lioness Rebirth seems an odd name for a blog. A Lioness is strong, independent, protective, loyal, a warrior, smart, etc. Rebirth is a renewal so to speak.  Lioness Rebirth is a brand that represents that renewal in all of us. It is focused on helping individuals to achieve their best self by providing information that matters. With all of this in mind, why not use the name Lioness Rebirth.

The Journey

My first post wast published on January 8, 2011. This post was comprised only of a video. My second post did not come until February 12, 2011. This mark the start of my active posting.

It was not until March 15, 2011 that I got my first follower. Before this I had blogged for three (3) months without an audience so to speak.

August 8, 2011 saw me entering my first Affiliate program with Shabby Apples. A month later I got my first paid reviewed on September 9, 2011. Since then, I have been privileged to write a number of reviews for selected products and services.

Standing Out

I have read and research a lot about blogging. The experts all say that you should find your niche. This was particularly hard for me. It is not that I was not aware of the various niches that existed: Book Review Blogs, Wedding Blogs, Fashion Blogs, Couponing Blogs, and the list goes on. My problem was that my blog did not fit into any of these niches and neither did I want to. These just did not suit me. Then it hit me.

My Popular posts are:

  • Positive Wednesdays
  • D.I.Y. Sundays
  • Blogging Tips
  • Personal Updates
  • Reviews

All of these posts are linked with giving information that my readers can find useful. Therefore, my blog has evolved into a forum that provides information that matters. Like me, my blog is going through a rebirth. In January you will notice that there will be a number of change occurring on my blog. I  am currently in the progress of getting my blog redesigned. I am also toying with the idea of going dot com. All of this is as a result of the review I have been privileged to do.

Stats

It is sad to say but stats is what ensure that you get paid reviews. However, I must stress the need for good content. After one year my stats are 17714. To some this might be a drop in the bucket but to me it is mind blowing. I must emphasize that I would not be able to achieve this feat without content that my readers like and find interesting. Social networking also played an important role. It enabled me to get my voice out there.

What Next?

I think the sky is the limit. What started as a hobby for an introvert in slowly turning into endless wonder. I will be working on taking my blog to the next level which means having a cleaner more professional look. However, the essence of what makes Lioness Rebirth has come to be will remain.

Thank You

Thank you for: stopping by, reading my posts, taking the time to comment,  providing  tips, your encouraging words and  for your friendships.  You have all made my journey this year very rewarding. I appreciate every single one of you. Thank You!!!!!
