I was freaked out when I saw the cover of the book. I honestly think that it does not do the book justice. After examining the cover I thought the book would be filled with savagery and zombies. Just think of anything dark and sinister and that came to my mind. However, that was not the case. For me the cover doesn't adequately capture the essence of the book. Basically, I am saying don't judge a book by its cover. This is one such book.
First let me say, I love good literature. I love to read material that will enable me to sink my teeth in it, that will play on my imagination and leave me wanting to turn to the next page. This book offered all of these things for me. I really appreciated the mixture of myths, legends, folklore and satire that Hutchings presented in the novel. To me, he was in a sense making a commentary of how society has replace certain values with commercialization. However, he did not offer his point of view in a rigid manifesto format or endless paragraphs of triads. The great thing about this book is that you are reading his stories and poems which are enlightening and witty, while us giving food for thought. With all of this in mind, I think the book offers a good balance whereas some of the stories fell flat for me; I found that there were a lot more stood out in my mind.
