Positive Wednesdays-Unconditional Love

Today's Positive Wednesday will be a little personal (actually a lot-personal).  I have known my soul mate for years. However, i was unable to truly love this person because i did not love and accepted myself. Today, we are finally on our journey towards planning a life together after approximately six years. With this in mind, today's Positive Wednesdays is about self love and self acceptance.

It is time to love yourself unconditionally!!!!

I was able to accept myself after coming to this realization. It does not matter the mistakes you have made (we have all made many). It does not matter imperfections you might have (no body is perfect). It is never too late to forgive or love yourself.

I also thought about the positive aspects of myself. This is the moment for you to self assess yourself.

At this very moment, you may be saying to yourself that you have any number of admirable qualities.  You are a loyal friend, a caring person, someone who is smart, dependable, fun to be around.  That's wonderful, and I'm happy for you, but let me ask you this:  are you being any of those things to yourself?

REMEMBER:

“You must love yourself before you love another. By accepting yourself and fully being what you are, your simple presence can make others happy.”

DIY Sundays- Makeup Remover

I got this idea because i have been searching the pharmacy here for an affordable makeup remover and i couldn't find one. So this gave birth to the DIY Makeup Remover.

DIY Makeup Remover

Here are some suggestions for DIY remover.

1. Combine cucumber juice to a few drops of baby oil to removed dirt and makeup.
2. Mix olive oil and baby oil to remove mascara.
3. Rub lemon peel on oily skin to remove oily and rejuvenate skin.
4. Rinse your face every night with raw milk to remove any makeup residue and oil.
5. Mix a spoonful of potato juice with a few drops of lemon juice to reduce blemishes and dark circles.
6. Use baby shampoo on a cotton ball to remove waterproof mascara.

This is my favourite:

Raising an Inter-racial Child

At home
I never thought i would be writing a post about this, but i could not get the thought out of my mind. First of all, i am the proud mommy of a 4 year old girl. You will notice that there aren't any pics of my daughter anywhere on this blog. I have made the decision not the place any, except for this post. To be honest i am ok with putting myself out there on the World Wide Web but i am very tentative to put her out there as well.(It seems weird, i know but this is my view on the topic. This does not mean i bash parents who post pics of their kids. Power to them i say.)

As you can see from the pics that i have placed around my blog, i am black. However, my daughter is what i love to call a melting pot.  For my family race was never an issue, that would have been ridiculous seeing that my entire family was a melting pot. So, it was quite natural for me growing up in such a family and for most Jamaicans this is the norm. Therefore, when my daughter was born i did not give the fact that she was inter-racial a second thought. Not until she started asking about it.

She started a new school in September and one day she came home more aware that she was different. It started with questions like:why is it my complexion is different from yours mommy? or mommy my hair is different from yours, why?

At the book store
I knew these questions would have been asked at some point. However, i did not expect them to be asked at age 4. I was bowled over, speechless to say the least.

So,i  had to have the talk. No, not THAT talk. I told her that she looks like both her mommy and her daddy. Then, i showed her what we had in common. That was good enough for my situation. But what about the people who have adopted a beautiful child, who just happens to be inter-racial or from a different race. What do they tell their sons and daughters?

At school-Christmas concert
I was having the same conversation with my mom and she proceed to tell me about a friend of hers, who is inter-racial. His comment was he did not realize that he was inter-racial until he was old enough to go to junior high (he grow up about sixty years ago).

Is it that, we as society are pointing out the obvious to these kids? Or is it that we have kids who are more aware?

Positive Wednesdays!!!!

Japan- need i say more. Every day we weak up and the news about what is going on in Japan gets worst. Without a doubt many people hurting. You can also be hurting and you are no where near Japan.

It could be the lost of a love one: husband, child, mother, lover or even a brother. You might feel like there is a hole inside that cannot be filled. Depression might have you seeing the nothing but dispair. This Positive Wednesday is for you.

"In moments of discouragement, defeat, or even despair, there are always certain things to cling to. Little things usually: remembered laughter, the face of a sleeping child, a tree in the wind—in fact, any reminder of something deeply felt or dearly loved.
No man is so poor as not to have many of these small candles. When they are lighted, darkness goes away—and a touch of wonder remains."

DIY Sundays- Facial

Last week i was experiencing the Sunday blues; well this week i have decided to combat the blues with a series entitled DIY (Do It Yourself) Sundays.

This series is inspired my own DIY routines that i often do on Sundays. I will share the products i use along with my actual routine. (These products have been purchased with my own money).

This Sunday is all about  the DIY Facial!!!!

First of all, i have normal skin with a oily t-zone. One might say i have a combination skin type.
The products that i use to do my facial are products i have used for about 10 years (you can call my old faithful). However, from time to time i do change or mix and match products. But for the most part, i have stayed true to the St. Ives line. I just absolutely love their products.

Products I used:

  1. Clean and Clear Foaming Facial Cleaner
  2. Conair Facial Sauna
  3. St. Ives Apricot Scrub
  4. St. Ives Firming Mask
  5. Clean and Clear Astringent
  6. St Ives Collagen

Although i have used these products. You do not have to. The products used for a facial may differ from person to person; this will depend upon your skin type and also upon the type of facial you wish to have.

Here are the steps i follow when i am doing my facial:
  1. cleansing
  2. steaming
  3. massaging
  4. applying a mask
  5. toning
  6. moisturizing  and facelifting massage

1.Cleansing:
The first step is cleansing. You can apply the cleaner to your damp face and starting at the base of the throat work your way upwards and spread the cleanser. Then in a similar fashion the cleanser will be wiped or washed away. This will remove the oil, grime and makeup.

2.Steaming: You can stream your face weekly; this suits most skin types. Although once a month is enough for dry and mature skins. Streaming is good because the damp heat opens the pores, encourages sweat to flush out ingrained dirt and brings oxygen-rich blood to renew the skin.

You may choose to put oil on your skin first, since the heat helps oil penetrate more deeply. But don't leave cleansing oil on, or you'll be drawing dirt back into the skin.

I normally pour the water in my Conair and cover my head with a towel and allow the stream t do its job. If you do not have a Conair don't worry. Pour boiled water in a basin and follow the same procedure. Remember, be careful not to burn yourself.

3.Exfoliation: The next step is exfoliation or facial scrubbing. This method extracts the dirt particles from the open pores ( pores are opened through steam treatment) and also blackheads and whiteheads are removed.

It is a simple method that whisks away dead cells from the surface of your skin, revealing the plumper, younger looking skin underneath. It also encourages your skin to speed up cell production, which means that the cells that reach the surface are younger and better-looking.

The result is a brighter, smoother complexion - no matter what your age or skin type.

4. Mask: Few treatments give your skin such a quick lift as a mask.
A mask uses a powder such as flour or clay to penetrate the pores more deeply.

It should be left on for 10-15 minutes. To remove the mask, dab it with water (for oily skin) or milk (for dry skin) to soften it, then gently massage and rinse the mix off your skin.

5.Toning: Remove any residues of the mask and soothe the skin with a splash of cool flower water or, for oily skin, witch hazel and flower water.

Skin that is very oily or has darker patches can be rubbed with a slice of lemon and left for a few minutes before rinsing off.

6.Moisturizing: Moisturize the skin with a good massage. You may use cream or oil based moisturizers for the massage or may use a light moisturizer.

I hope find all of this useful. Please give me your feedback or you an even request a particular DIY routine.

Just wanted to leave you with this thought:

Plus One

I logged on today with my regular routine in mind: go to my dashboard, read the blog updates of the blogs i have subscribed to, read the blogs of note, read the blogger buzz and then click on next blog.  However, i was greeted by a significant difference. I was plus one. At first i thought my eyes were deceiving me, my breathing slowed as i steadied my eyes on the icon indicating i have 1 follower. So, i measurably clicked on it just to see if it was indeed real.It was!!!

So, now i feel honoured that a fellow blogger saw something in my ramblings and subscribed. Thank you for coming along with me on my journey. But, i must say that Winston Churchill quote was the icing on the proverbial cake.Lets just say this morning was looking quite bleak and it reminded me to let my inner sunshine.

Positive Wednesdays!!!!!!!!!

It is Wednesday, the middle of the week. Therefore, it is often on this day that you pray for Friday. So, i thought that i can start a weekly series entitled Positive Wednesdays. Certainly, this is not a novel idea but i am looking forward to a high dose of positivity.

I read a blog by Tara B.-Little Girl Big Closet- that speaks about and to blog bashers (like that term- it has a ring to it.). Just to say that : 'People who project negativity typically have low self-esteem. They feel badly about themselves, and their negativity is simply a reflection of those feelings'.

Just to say that being a blogger is often a daunting process. By nature i am a very private person so i was quite pensive when i thought about joining this wonderful community. It is not easy sharing a part of ones self and being bashed for it. In essence, that is what a blogger does when he or she blogs. With that said, i wanted to speak to the negativity with a dose of positivity.

“People deal too much with the negative, with what is wrong. Why not try and see positive things, to just touch those things and make them bloom?”
Thich Nhat Hanh Quotes

Brain Speak

It is 3: 50 am on Tuesday, March 15. I have been up since 1 am. I could not sleep so i decided to blog. There is just so much to do and so little time to do it in. I am seriously thinking about a getting a 9-5 job. The type of job that i can leave at work.

Then, i think about my purpose. What is my purpose on this earth? (I often wonder.) Is it that i am fulfilling my purpose in my current job? How do i know i am fulfilling my purpose? All of these answers are all exploding in my head. Now you understand the mine field that is my brain.

Let me not get started on the deadlines that i need to meet. So, i have exactly 10 minutes in which i have to complete this blog because i will have to get back to work completing my paper work. Then, off to my actual work. Ohh the joy of it all!

Got to go it is exactly 4 am and my blog time is up.

Must Blog - Randomness

So i realized that i have been extremely busy running around getting things done. I must say renovating the new house will be super expensive, interesting and taxing experience. I can't wait to see the final outcome. I have been taking loads of pictures which i will share in time.

So i went to the National Water Commission to reconnect the water at the new house; i was promptly informed that the transfer and reconnection fee will be $13000 dollars. I felt like i was robbed when i left the building. I hope my tax dollars are going to good use.

With everything going on i heard from my sis that Face book was shutting down. I was blown away, literally. The first thing that came to my mind is i will lose contact with all the friends that i have found. However, i am hoping it is just a rumor that is going around.

Springs Trends 2011- Loving It!!!!!!!

The Oscars got me thinking about fashion; something that i have totally neglected. I would not say i am a t-shirt and jeans kind of girl; although i do love my jeans. Anyways, these are some trends that i am definitely looking forward to.

Trend 1- Bell Bottoms.

I am overjoyed that tight pants will be out this Spring. I guess i am the only one on this planet who does not adore this trend. I literally shouted YES!!! when i saw that bell bottoms ( flared jeans and flared trousers) are in this spring. This trend takes me back to high school (no not the 70's but in fact the 90's).
You will notice that the high pants waist and bright colour are features of the Spring 2011 trend.

I am totally loving this trend. Not only are you wearing less clothes but it can be playful or formal. Need i say: LOVE IT!!!!!!

This is a variation of the bell bottoms. However there is a difference between the two. The wide leg pants can be sophisticated yet relaxed, sharp and tailored with a mid to high waist: that's how 2011's wide-leg trouser distinguishes itself. It is perfect for masculine-inspired looks, be they very modern or very vintage. Notice that the pants is paired with a sheer animal paint top, this is another trend that is TOTALLY in.

Trend 4-Capri pants

Can you say: biker chick!!!! This Capri look slightly longer than what i am accustomed to but i love the trend nonetheless. Great look!!!

There is something about crochet that speaks SEXY! I am soo looking forward to getting a few choice crochet items. Maybe even a swim suit.

We saw this trend on the red carpet of the 2011 Oscars. I must say lace is a girl's best friend. What i like about this trend is that there are numerous variations to it. It can be a dress, shirt, shorts, you name it.

Remember these are some of the  trends that i like for Spring 2011. Once again i am not a fashionista; just a girl who is sharing what she likes.
